Description

A discharge rod is used to remove residual capacitive charge from a circuit that has been isolated but not yet earthed — the step between switching off and applying portable earths. This is a telescopic rod: it collapses to a transportable length and extends to the working length for the system voltage, so one rod covers a range of sites rather than a single voltage class. The pole is epoxy fiberglass; the earth connection is a copper cable with a clamp, and the discharge element is available in resistive and non-resistive versions. Versions are supplied for 10 kV, 35 kV, 50 kV, 110 kV and 220 kV, with rod lengths from 1.1 m to 3 m. Colour and OEM branding are customisable. Every rod is supplied with its earth cable and is packed as a single item measuring 110 x 15 x 15 cm at 1.5 kg.

Production & Quality

How this discharge rod is produced and checked

Every rod is built on one site: the epoxy fiberglass pole is pultruded on our own line, the telescopic sections are matched by hand, and the assembled rod is insulation tested before it is packed as a single item.

Pultrusion line: glass-fiber roving drawn from a creel into the forming line, with the cutting and finishing station alongside
Rod production starts at the creel. Glass-fiber roving is fed into the pultrusion line, and the cured pole is cut to length and finished at the station alongside.
Hollow profiles strapped in bundles and staged at the production line, with reflective end marking on every bundle
Material staged beside the line and strapped in bundles, with reflective end marking so each bundle is identified before it enters the process.
FRP panels, profiles and tubes stacked on pallets in the workshop store, with an overhead crane hook above them
Parts staged between processes in the workshop store. Work in progress is held against the production order, not against the machine.

Process — how it is made

  • Pole body pultruded on our own line: reinforcement is pulled through a resin bath and a heated die, which sets wall thickness and resin content before the tube is cured.
  • Telescopic sections cut to length and squared, then matched so the rod extends to the working length of its voltage class — 1.1 m at 10 kV up to 3 m at 220 kV.
  • Resistive discharge element fitted as its own assembly, and the copper earth cable prepared with its clamp at the same station.
  • Joints and locking checked section by section, so the rod holds its set length in service instead of creeping back down.
  • Color and OEM branding applied last, so a customized run leaves the line finished to the buyer label.

Inspection — how it is checked

  • Incoming material check: resin, reinforcement and bought-in metal parts are checked against the specification before they are released to the line.
  • Dimensional check on every section — length, tube diameter and squareness of the cut ends.
  • In-process checks at the cutting, assembly and earth-cable stations, recorded against the production order.
  • Insulation withstand testing before shipment, with third-party testing supported on request.
  • Surface check on the finished pole, then a final packing check against the packing list.
